Absolutely delightful place in Tangalle and definitely worth visit. We were just walking around looking for dinner and stumbled upon this empty place. We were bit curious and sceptical, but gave it a shot and it turned out to be completely great choice and they sure do deserve to be packed!
Lovely family prepared us great grilled fishes and tuna steak, they also played a good music and treated us for vanilla ice cream with peanuts as a dessert free of charge. Highly recommend to pay them a visit and enjoy this family feeling. Food is made ready-to-serve, so it can take some time to get it ready, but you will get playing card to kill time. Overall, a great restaurant to be and cannot recommend them enough!
Just had an INCREDIBLE meal at Yasara!! We weren't too sure initially as the place was empty when we arrived (we'd turned up for a late dinner after another place had closed the kitchen), but thought we'd give it a crack with a decent looking hand written menu, fairy lights, and an adorable little wooden bridge to the restaurant. Best decision of Tangalle.
We were looked after so well by the family. They were super attentive and wonderfully friendly, regularly checking on us, chatting about the restaurant and Sri Lanka, providing little touches like candles for the table and a natural cinnamon-based mosquito repellent. You'll find better English elsewhere, but these are some delightful, accommodating, genuine folk!
The prices are similar or cheaper than anything I've seen this close to the beach and the portions are massive and DELICIOUS!! Excellent value for money! I had the veg rice and curry (pictured just before the papadums arrived) and absolutely devoured it, even struggling to fit the last few bites, but doing it anyway. So so happy that we ended up here!

The qualify of food is excellent, bio fruits, vegs & spicy coming from organic garden just behind (you can have an botanical excursion as well). Service is at the high level while prices are more than reasonable. Owner is an intelligent person intreasting to talk with, all the family is very friendly and create home caring atmosphere. We had a wonderful evening at this place & recommend it to everyone.
My friend and I had dinner at this lovely place. Such a nice restaurant :) The family who serves you is so kind and friendly! We had rice & curry and a kotthu with prawns - huge portions !!!
So just to advise you, the rice & curry could even be shared by two :) very delicious.
The family even helped us out with a taxi up to Ella with reasonable costs, not too expensive.
We definitely recommend this restaurant and will come back again as soon as we are back in Sri Lanka ....thank you !!!
We arrived in a late evening at Yasara restaurant and ordered fish. The portions were big and very very tasty. It was the best fish with garlic + vegetables I ate on the island.
The service was perfect. The family running the place are careful and very friendly. They like to talk with you and understand a bit of your culture.
They considered us their guests and we had a pleasant touch of the sri lankan culture.

Most amazing, well priced, deliciously fresh home made Sri Lankan food made with love. We tried the thosei with sambar and veg rice and curry- everything was authentically fantastic. This family run restaurant is doing a fantastic job, not only with the quality of food but the lovely hospitality with a smile. Thank you for the chat and the wonderful food. Yasara is not just dinner, it is a true Sri Lankan experience. We were invited into the owner's home, talked with the family most of the night, explored the back gardens and even fed their pet deer (Roni). The food was absolutley wonderful but be prepared for an hour wait as they literally make everything from from scratch, right in front of you. The place is very new (only two months old) so they are still getting the hang of the restaurant operations, but they are lovely people, over the top hospitable, and serve delicious, authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. Would HIGHLY recommend.
Our favourite meal in Sri Lanka. It's an authentic home cooking experience and by the end you will feel like you know the family as they treat you like guests not just customers and the food is perfect.
