So we frequent the branch at Monte and it's always great. This branch was having a buffet special so we decided to visit. The options were plenty, and so were the flavors. Everything was prepared to perfection. Thava never disappoints. They are a little pricey from their menu, but their food is quality. Frequently visit The Thava in Norwood. Generally very good service, good quality food. Flavourful, authentically Indian cuisine. Spice level is not always consistent - I feel that portion sizes could be bigger for the cost of the meal. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person R 150–200

Had date night with my hubby and the food was amazing from the starters which was was the Tandoori mixed platter for 2. I had the butter chicken with garlic Naan on the side and my hubby had the Kerala Coconut prawn curry! Enjoyed every moment! You have to drive around the to the back parking and just go for it. From the outside, driving by it seems as if Thava doesn't exist but it does. Inside you'll find yourself warm and cosy and I find that the service has always been on point. Some items are great, some good, and your favorites will always be your favorites. The food was yummy. The butter chicken was so tasty and coupled with some Naan made for a delicious meal. The veg starter platter was a great and that mint yogurt sauce was so good. This is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Johannesburg. I visited the place with couple of polish friend in November 2019. We ordered some vegetarian starters and main course (both veg and non-veg). I would not say that I am very impressed with the food. My polish friends liked the food. I was bit disappointed with the food quality and use of species in the food. Hope the chef will try to provide authentic Indian tastes

Very good authentic Indien food. Great that they can make any vegetarian food vegan friendly. Must eat here is definitely the jalfrezi vegetable curry with their naan bread. It’s to die for 😊 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

This is our fourth visit here. Very spacious and can accommodate a lot of people. Service is tops and cannot complain. We were a family of 5 and my everyone enjoyed their dishes. Portions are good and food is delish. I just had a problem with the idli and soji which I found to be bland. Would I recommend Thava - yes I would indeed.

Overall experience was not as expected due to the fact that I had heard exceptional review about this place and has high expectations even before I had my first bite. The quality of ingredients was good but the prepared food was average. Quality of Roti was average and even the portion size was small. Curries were prepared well however they were either very sweet or very hot. The chef did use extensive chilli while preparing a vindaloo dish ( dish which has a spicy base but not hot per say). If in the area I will visit once more to experience the good food that I was told I could get here. I just hope it was a odd day for them that day .
