I had a delightful experience at Souper Cafe in Sri Lanka. The concept of showcasing authentic Asian soups, each representing its respective country's culinary trademark, was impressive. It featured Vietnamese Pho Bo, Japanese Ramen, and Thai Tom Yum.
The Pho Bo was exceptionally tasty, served in a generous liter-sized portion. The broth was rich and well-balanced, complemented by thin and succulent beef slices and high quality rice noodles. The variety of fresh herbs, including cilantro, green onions, basil, and mint, added a burst of flavor. Accompanying condiments like chili paste, Sriracha, garlic-chili vinegar, and lime enhanced the taste even further. This soup, both delicious and nourishing, has become my go-to choice at Souper Cafe.
The recent relocation to Midigama with its skate park and surfboard rental adds to the overall appeal.
I appreciate the cafe's commitment to high-quality dishes, attention to recipes, presentation, and quality ingredients, which is not always typical in Sri Lanka.
Great Pho and ramen. I don't get where the 1 star reviews are coming from, maybe something has changed in the past months, but the food is really good and portions big (hence a bit pricier than soups in nearby places.)
Let's start with the good! There is not so much food variety in Sri Lanka so new options are always welcome and the staff is lovely.
The bad now:
- Don't believe the reviews online, the owner is russian and if you look at the other reviews, they also seem to be from russian people.
- Being half vietnamese, this Pho soup was a big disappointment, very few ingredients, not all the ingredients of a normal pho soup, 3 meager pieces of beef (see picture), a tasteless broth.
- My girlfriend and I, had to go to the restaurant next door (Hiru which I would HIGHLY recommend) after our (expensive dinner) there because we were still hungry.
If you choose for the "ramen", be aware it is "vegetarian" and they will charge extra for the egg, the meat and even the tofu lol Full disclosure, we did not get the ramen but there must not be much left in it if you don't pay for the "add-ons".
Typical extortionate restaurant by a foreigner that does not have another goal than fill the owner's pocket. Would highly recommend going to a local place.

In short, the worst place I've been to, so far in Sri Lanka!
- Not soup but rather diluted water!
- Very expensive giving the fact in some other places you can get a fresh tuna steak for the money!
- Unprofessional and rather rude owner/ manager!
- Uncomfortable tables! Low sits and high tables.
- They serve cola from pet bottles.
- Ice is added to your drink without even asking.
+ The Sri Lankan guy who served us was friendly.
My boyfriend and I ordered the so called Japanese Ramen and the Pho soup.
Both where tasteless and clearly diluted with water in a later stage of cooking. Cheap ingredients, worst than the cheapest supermarket noodles.
After 3 spoons I decided to make a complaint, the manager was called. I tried to tell her that I don't like the taste of the soup and I am not willing to pay for it. She looked at me with a disgusted face and told me that everybody else likes her soups! She examined "the ramen" and told me that I've ate all the "tasty" parts, so I should pay for it anyway...
Extremely delicious ramen and Pho, a really good alternative to a lot of the food in South Sri Lanka area. The soups are authentic and will make you want to come back again!

I think it's the only spot for pho bo in the region and it's great the same time. Absolutely recommended to visit. Also - great owners and sweet puppies on site!
