À propos
Nestled in the seaside district of Matosinhos, O Gaveto is a fine dining spot that specializes in traditional Portuguese seafood cuisine. The restaurant features an old-school ambiance with excellent service and an elegant interior design. While the prices are above average, the quality of the seafood is unmatched, making it well worth the cost. O Gaveto is known for its fresh fish and seafood, which can be chosen by customers. Some of the standout dishes include the grilled sea bass, lobster rice, and seafood rice. The restaurant also has an extensive wine list, including the best Porto wines, and a selection of cocktails and soft drinks. For those seeking outdoor seating, O Gaveto has private parking with security. While there are many seafood establishments in Matosinhos, O Gaveto stands out as one of the best.

It is a very good restaurant with a seafood specialization. There is a great choice of live lobsters and crab as well as fresh fish, seafood and shrimps. The wine list is good and sufficient. The dishes are rather simple but tasty. The service is good and rapid. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €45–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Wow wow wow. Best fish restaurant we have ever been too. Id say one of the best in the world. Full of local Porto residents so we felt a little odd but they made us welcome and demonstrated how to eat the goosehead barnacles. Will recommend to everyone we know Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €45–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Grilled Squids
Beautiful restaurant in Matosinhos. Service is really old school (older waiters, limited English but they’re doing their best). We wanted to know how many oysters are in 1kg and he actually brought us the oysters on a platter to see how many are there. I think it’s expensive by local standards but we enjoyed it. Got some fresh oysters (1kg), 2 big prawns, one portion of clams and cod plus a bottle of house white wine. Total damage: 120Eur Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €50+ Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
**NOTE: Was invited for a wine tasting dinner so did not pick up the check. Based on what we ordered I would say it was about 40€ per person. Additionally I didn’t want to be rude to our hosts or the establishment so I didn’t immediately take photos are usual. With that being said, everything was fantastic. The service was attentive, fun but not intrusive. Started with oysters which were a perfect balance of salinity flavors and freshness. Having spent some time on Nantucket, I will say they stand up to that competition. We enjoyed a huge chilled seafood platter with some of the best prawns and crab dip I have ever had. After that we enjoyed the clams and lobster rice soup. Both were great with well balanced flavors but the lobster soupy rice took it for me. We finished with an assortment of desserts with my favorite being this little almond crunch bite. All of this paired with some amazing Ramos Pinto white wines. I would definitely go back when in the area. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €40–45 Recommended dishes Clams Cooked with Souce

The clams are very full, and there is a huge duck (22.5 euros) from an anthology, proving that simple cooking is only for masters like chef Alonso. Three hundred grams of goose barnacles (13.5 euros) are enough to quench the longing for the sea, they will soon be more vigorous, 150 grams of small shrimp from the coast (14.25 euros) and the accounts are done with destiny, we are already saved . Toast with butter on the side, a good white served and the journey begins. In good time, Manuel Pinheiro decided to hand over the controls of this spacecraft to his sons João Carlos, already mentioned, and José Manuel, who also officiates in the room, it's nice to see him there happy from table to table, and all of us, happy to see you so happy. The rice and bread soups are unavoidable and are good for two people. The seafood rice (39.5 euros), carolino with immaculate pulp, is a treat, the lobster rice (62.5 euros) quintessential. The lobster soup (59.5 euros) is worth checking out. On days when the shellfish is less popular, the hake fillets with Russian salad prepared here are glorious, and when they are available, grilled turbot (55 euros/kg) is rarely missed. And going to Gaveto with a sense of the flesh is not a sin, it is an easily realized and more than justified desire. Saturday's champion dish, tripe à moda do Porto (17.5 euros) is a must, the beef steak à Gaveto (17.75 euros) is a trip back in time and the veal tenderloin with peas (15. 75 euros) delight for the tables with the youngest. In the sweet endings, the double temptation of Ovar sponge cake (4.75 euros) and almond tart (3.95 euros). Good: The shellfish soup was very good. Huge selection of live and fresh seafood with absolutely no smell so it must be super fresh. We got a glass of red and white wine and both were excellent! Bad: Little flies buzzed around my face and walked on things. Server re-plated the food at the table causing it to cool faster. The steak was cooked a perfect rare but we were not asked our preference. The steak needed sauce and salt. Room temperature fried unsalted potatoes and grilled bread were brought to the table. If you don’t want them, ask them to take them away since they are not free. The website says they are open all day but they open at 7pm. The menu doesn’t list what comes with each dish and our server didnt answer. The plate of steak had strained spinach which was free and fried potatoes which were not. The most delicious prawns ever. We had some really delicious and fresh seafood. Every plate had its own unique flavour and the restaurant was quiet and very relaxing. A little more expensive than all the other places we went in Porto but it's worth it if you are a seafood lover. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €45–50

We had a nice early dinner here on a Friday evening. Arrived at 6pm and there was no one else seated. There was two of us and we split the stuffed crab and monkfish rice. It was very delicious but too much food and rich. The crab and rice is both a large portion and hard to split with just two people. The crab legs come pre cracked which was easier. The monkfish rice was very savory yet balanced. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €50+

Fabulous lunch here. I would rate it 4.5 as service was fairly stern, perfunctory I would say, though they were very busy. The shrimp omelette , the giant fresh crab, the local shrimps and sea bass all delicious, good wines too. Excellent Sunday lunch venue.
