We really enjoyed the food, both the European dishes and the Asian ones. The only downside is that it took a little too long time between the first serving and the last one. Like 10 minutes. Perhaps the best food in huay yang
We have had 6 meals at Kaew so far and each have been exceptional. Green currys, red currys, omelettes, pad Thai, fried rice, soups, noodle dishes, burgers etc
All were very tasty with the currys being the unbelievably good along with the Tom Yam. You will not eat a poorly cooked or bland dish here.
Over and above that, the prices are very fair...average for the area or lower. The owner/cook Ghow (like the arabic trading vessel dhow but with a g) speaks very reasonable English and explains when she buys ingredients for less, she charges less - unheard of!
She has been very understanding in cooking for one of our children who is a Coeliac. She spent her own time on the internet researching what noodles, sauces etc are gluten free and what he could/couldn't eat and is quickly becoming an expert. By the time we leave, we hope to help her rewrite her menu to help other people with a similar condition.
We are here in low season so no desserts at the moment but a small price to pay. Sometimes certain fish dishes are not available because Ghow cannot source what she believes is high enough quality to serve her patrons so would rather forgoe a sale than serve something she believes is subpar.
Oh, the red curry is HOT!!! I love spicy food but met my match. She only made it medium when I asked for spicy and that was about as spicy as I could go without subsequent medical attention.
Children always get served first as hungry children make for poor adult company :-) Her wonderful twin sons Ning and Nun help out.
Overall, Kaew comes with our highest recommendation. Excellent food, friendly and efficient service, fantastic hostess. Superlative.
