Had lunch on the terrace- fried Mekong fish and frogs legs. Very simple prep- the dried rub on the fish was perfect, the garlic on the frog legs was classic but could have used a bit of sugary/spicy dipping sauce imo. I put the frog sauce in the fish and vice versa. I was told Lao frogs are scrawny but they were fine. The chocolate mousse was ~2+ days old; it was clear the stale cookie on top had been removed, when they should have just told me it wasn't available. Gin sling too sweet, Lao gin and tonic interesting to try. Seems to be the same owner or restauranteur as bistro bat van sene and l’elephant but better cooking in my opinion. it's a bit tiresome seeing the same menu items at different places. one of the best in LPB, but we’re not talking Michelin material here. We went to the restaurant and asked to be seated indoor where there was aircon but the staff seem to insist that we seated outdoor near the road. They seem to be selective about the people who can sit at level 2 or in the aircon room at level one. The service is average, we have to pour our own water. The staff seem to pay little attention compared to other diners. We had better service elsewhere in luang prabang. However, the pasta and the duck breast were delicious. If you only care about food and not potential differential treatment, I think it is ok to give it a try. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
Le Calao is a great classic of Luang Prabang and not to be missed for many reasons. It oozes history as it is one of the very first establishments of the city. The restaurant serves well balanced Lao and Western fare (we went for Lao) and service is impeccable. Love the architecture! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
This restaurant ticked all the boxes: service, ambience and delicious food. The building is a beautifully restored, French colonial masterpiece that looks across the river. If you’re dining outside, ask for a mosquito coil to avoid the mozzies. Friendly service and extensive menu. I stuck to traditional Laos dishes, ordered too much but ate it all! They didnt have the largest choices of food but the food was delightful. I definitely recommend the Lao food over the western dishes though. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A beautiful serene restaurant with very friendly staff...the buffalo tartare is delicious...went twice during our stay for it. The wine is lovely too, but the kind staff makes it extra special. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
