Walked past this lovely restaurant on the beach and got a seat straight away without a reservation. The staff are friendly.
The food tastes very good, there is a nice selection of fish dishes. Meals are beautifully presented.
Unfortunately, I saw on my credit card statement that I was about $25USD overcharged despite a generous tip, which I paid in cash. That must not happen!

La Popular in Tulum was an absolute delight! During our lunch visit, the ceviche and tacos were nothing short of amazing. The fresh flavors and vibrant presentation impressed us. The friendly staff and charming ambiance added to the overall experience. A must-visit culinary gem in Tulum for any food lover!

What an amazing dinner. Setting, and experience cannot be beat. The cacerola de camarones was out of this world. We ordered 8 items and loved them all!
I spent 8 days in Tulum and this was my favorite dining experience and the best food.
Luxurious views outside beachside. Seating is at low tables and on cushions.
We went at sunset and got to watch the sunset. Service was excellent. Ambiance was perfect.
I highly recommend.
The employees are friendly and smiling. Almost all of them speak English, which is hard to find in overalls. Everything we ate and drank was delicious. Pasta can be added to the menu. There should be more hours of music.
This is a beautiful location and service is pretty good, sadly the food is very bland - no spice or salt. The Mexican plates didn’t taste Mexican and we simply kept adding chile. It was boiling and since the drinks weren’t served cold but on ice, it kept melting… cocktails were disappointing … we got there with high expectations, sadly they were unfulfilled and it wasn’t particularly easy on the pocket either.

The setting and ambience can't get any better than at La Popular. Tables are set at a perfect beach with the sound of the waves and maybe the best view of the beach in Tulum. But a great location and setting is not the only important part of a restaurant, at la Popular the entire staff is friendly, and in our case Eligio went above and beyond to make sure that this perfect setting was match with their service. To add even more, the food was delicious, we ordered the "pulpo confitado" (Octopus Confit), Calamari rings, Ceviche Mix (with octopus & shrimp) and the salmon tartare and each one was perfect. I highly recommend going an hour before the sunset and stay for as long as you'd like, every minute here is worth it.
El lugar y el ambiente de La Popular no pueden ser mejorados. Las mesas estan puesta en la playa escuchando el sonido de las olas rompiendo en la playa en un lugar que pudiera ser considerado la mejor playa de Tulum. Pero el lugar o el ambiente no son la unica parte importante de un restaurante, en la popular todos los empleados son amigables y en nuestro caso, Eligio hizo todo lo posible para que este lugar perfecto tuviera el servico perfecto tambien. Para añadirle mas, la comida es deliciosa, ordenamos pulpo confitado, anillo de Calamares, Ceviche Mixto (con pulpo y camarones) y el tartare de Salmon los cuales estaban deliciosos. Les recomiendo llegar una hora antes del atardecer y quedarse hasta la noche y disfrutar cada minuto de este lugar perfecto.
**When we refused to pay the service charge, I was told two things;
1 - our waiter got angry and told me none of the staff receive the service charge anyway!
2 - a manager interjected and demanded I pay the service charge immediately!!! I was not allowed to leave until I’d done so. Felt very intimidating and somewhat shady.
Note I declined to pay the service charge because I was overcharged and then they made up some story for the reason why suggesting the bill was correct. Not a nice way to be treated.
Other than this, a beautiful spot, very fresh produce and a unique vibe. Such a shame.
Just beware please. Unfortunately I won’t be visiting again.
