À propos
Most guests recommend trying nicely cooked salmon, steaks and seafood. Delicious beer is what may make you return to this restaurant. A lot of reviewers say that the staff is creative at this place. Enjoyable service is something that visitors highlight in their comments. You may be surprised by attractive prices at Great American Restaurants. But this place hasn't received a high rating from Google users.

Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
I’m giving this chain a low rating not because of their food or service - both good. But I am married to a non-drinker who enjoys mocktails. We were at Coastal Flats Saturday and were informed by the server that it is the policy of the company not to mix mocktails. Given how many people restrict alcohol consumption now, that seems like a poor business decision and not at all customer friendly. I also wish they would update their menus in all their restaurants. They’ve been almost the same for 30 years!! Oh, and my spouse no longer wishes to eat at restaurants in this chain.
Me and my family were regular customers. Loved Sweetwater Tavern and Coastal Flats. Sweetwater stopped serving FREE Aussie rolls and started charging $1 each. So tonight we decided to treat our friends to dinner at Coastal. Ordered Aussie rolls and were told they aren’t free and are $1 each. We asked since when, we just ate there 2 weeks ago. The waitress said “nope we charge now” she was rude and non apologetic. She said it is for some waiter fund. Which I could support, but it’s absolutely ridiculous that you charge us an exorbitant amount of money to eat out now. When all the bigwigs in corporate make more money than they know what to do with. And yet you continue to pay waitstaff little over two dollars an hour. It’s time to fight back. Consider yourselves boycotted and we are going to spread the word…
What a warm, pleasant place! They made me feel like a Prince. The food was great, but that wasn't the best part. Jessica and Madeline were friendly and helpful and attentive. And then, on the way out, Brenna the hostess, remembered that I had eaten in The Sweet Water Tavern a couple of nights before. She even remembered that I was in the DC area to visit my stepson, who was a new congressman. The hospitality of this restaurant staff was outstanding. I've never dined with such pleasure. Ray Lamse
I just love the Great American restaurants, especially Coastal Flats. I have never had a bad meal and the service is always top notch but if for some reason you aren’t happy with something they go out of their way to make is right. This is definitely my favorite restaurant chain.
My friends and i had dinner at coastal flats tonight. I ordered the crispy trout. I never order the trout so thought i would try it. I thought it was really too burnt and told server. With a snicker He told me i was eating the skin. Embarrassed because I didn’t know. So after taking the fish off the skin i could not eat it because i was not feeling well. The waiter came over and asked me how was the fish. I said that i was not really feeling well and his reply was “GO HOME AND Take Some PEPTO BISMOL! “ Shame on him for being so rude to me. Really you should talk to your staff. Shame you n you for making me feel so degraded. You probably wont do anything but i am very upset.
This is a shout out to Amy and Brenna Pierson, Manager. We have been enjoying the exceptional service and great food since the original Sweetwater opened in Centreville and have regularly patronized the Sterling location. On October 22, 2017 my wife and I decided that we would celebrate my birthday a day early at the Sweetwater, Sterling, VA location. It was a beautiful day and the outside bar was open. We were fortunate to get a seat immediately at the corner of the bar. It took a few minutes before a new bartender with dark curly hair finally asked us what we would like to drink. My wife ordered a Brancott Savn Blanc and I had my favorite pale ale. We also asked for bread which arrived promptly from a very customer oriented young man who provided us with roll ups and side plates. We finally decided that we were going to have the shrimp appetizer and told the bartender that I was ready for another beer. From that point on it was as if we were invisible. I made eye contact numerous times and she would immediately avert her eyes a different direction as if we were not there. Our appetizer arrived along with additional bread I had requested. I never received my second beer and my wife was never offered another glass of wine. She finally checked back and said “how’s the bread.” We both finally had had enough of the lack of service and attention and asked for our check which had my second beer which was never received. We paid our check and left $4 for a $25 dollar check. My wife went to wait by the front door while I went to complain to the Manager. On the way into the bar area I encountered one of our favorite bartenders Amy who promptly went to speak with Brenna. I explained the circumstances and Brenna gave me her card and a $45 dollar gift certificate to return again. Yesterday, my wife and I were running errands and decided to stop by Sweetwater and “try again. We went to the outside bar and only saw Eric whom we did not know. I went to look for who was working the inside bar and recognized the same bartender from the 22nd of October. We promptly went back to the outside bar and sat at the corner of the bar and were immediately served by Eric. Shortly thereafter, Amy returned to the bar as she had stepped away to attend to another patrons needs. She immediately thanked my wife and I for giving them a chance to make up the last horrible visit. We had a great evening thanks to Amy and Eric. As we were paying our check Adriana Naylor, Asst GM stopped and spoke with us regarding the previous experience. She also thanked us for returning to make up for the previous visit. We always have enjoyed visiting Sweetwater and the 22nd was the first time we were upset enough to leave. Please convey our thanks to Amy, Eric and Adrianna for making us feel welcome again. Respectfully, Lynda James & Elmer E. Hata

I've been to several of their locations, including Mike's American, Costal Flats & Sweetwater Tavern. I've always enjoyed the food & the atmosphere. I hope they will open a location in PG County someday. Service Dine in
1st world problems, but am paying first world prices. Sit down customers are relegated to the farthest parking spaces from the front door and they are tiny. You can barely open the doors to get out. No menus so no sitting down and relaxing with a print menu. Everyone has to look at the food options on a tiny phone screen unless you bring a larger option. This is inconvenient especially for seniors. Pre-meal is now an option and not complimentary, cheap but a cost none the less. I think I'll.take a break from Mike's until they start treating the sit down customers better than the carry out ones. The staff is still friendly except for the "I didn't build the building" comment when I mentioned the parking spaces.
