Highly recommend this restaurant! Great value and a lot of choices not just JP dishes. With 2 teenagers our family of four from Wellington was very happy with our dinners. The sushi tacos with soft shell crabs 🦀 and the salmon volcano is very satisfying both delicious… We will definitely be back for another visit! The lady owner is very friendly and welcoming, by the time we finished our dinner the restaurant was FULL. We didn’t book but we were there very early like 5pm. The big big crab need to be preordered and we would love to try it another time! Got the Sizzling Scotch Fillet for lunch today and it came with so many sides. All of which were super delicious. And the steak just cooked to perfection. So much flavour in just one meal. The atmosphere is just awesome. And I love how Bo looks after her restaurant and comes up with so many creative and delicious dishes. The presentation and food are always spot on. Fantastic food. Amazing service. The owner is absolutely lovely and welcoming. I'm lactose intolerant and were extremely accommodating. I'll definitely be coming again the next time I'm in Blenheim. Hands down the BEST bento I've had in NZ. Every item was fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the portions were generous - especially for a lunch special. I wouldn't have ordered the teriyaki beef or fried sushi roll as they're very hit-and-miss items, but everything here was a hit! The owner is absolutely lovely, very conversational when we were ordering and leaving but gave us enough space to enjoy our meal. It's clear she takes a lot of pride in her restaurant, and it shows in every detail from decorations to the professional photography of menu items. What you see on the menu is exactly what you get on the table, down to the frozen fruit and fancy ice in the lemonade. We can't wait to go back! Highly recommend! If you wanna an unique Japanese food experience in Blenheim, that's the place! Going to Gohan since their opening and tried pretty much every dish on their menu, I am never disappointed. The flavours are always amazing, beautiful presentation and generous portion for a very reasonable price. Thank you for the careful customer service, always been a good moment there!

Very mixed experience. One waitress on tonight who struggled to keep up with a full house. One other who was only doing drinks as well. The sushimi was well presented, but on the thin side and tuna was a bit sinuous. Gyoza were not great, very soft for the fried version, so much that they nearly fold in half. Beef Tataki was not good - odd jelly, cold, chewy and took nearly an hour to arrive (apparently our order went tot the wrong table). They were very nice about this and kindly took it off the bill. The teriyaki ginger salmon was the best dish of the night.

There is a reason Gohan is often full. It makes the best Japanese food in Blenheim -- no contest. And Bo and her husband look after their diners so well.
