This place is amazing! It's the perfect balance between delicious food, warm hospitality and outstanding atmosphere. We enjoyed more than 10 different dishes while admiring the beautiful rice fields :)

The restaurant is located in a small place with a beautiful view of a paddy field, and the distant sight of "Araliya Rice Mill" adds to the rustic charm.
However, my visit took place around 4:00 PM, and the experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arrival, we were informed that there was food available, but it turned out to be only leftovers from lunch. These leftovers were served cold and were insufficient to accommodate our group of 10 people.
In response to the situation, the staff cooked a new batch of rice for us, but the quantity provided was still minimal. Additionally, some of the food that was served appeared to be nearing spoilage, and one particularly concerning instance was the fish that seemed to have been prepared several days ago and was no longer fresh. The presence of flesh-flies around the fish further added to the unhygienic conditions.
The pricing at Gemi Gedara restaurant was notably high, considering the limited and unsatisfactory food offerings. Each person was charged around Rs. 400/= for the meager amount of food that was available, which was not reflective of the quality or quantity provided.
Given my experience, I would advise potential diners to visit Gemi Gedara restaurant before 2:00 PM to ensure a better chance of getting fresher and more appetizing food. However, considering the expensive pricing, I would suggest exploring other dining options in the area for a more enjoyable and value-for-money experience.

It’s a small place with a beautiful view on a paddy field. The was a huge variety of different curry toppings and rice. It’s a buffet, so you can take as much as you want. The host gave us different traditional desserts. Highly recommend this place
The place is gorgeous. You can drink fresh pineapple or banana juices looking at rise field from under the roof of palm leaves.
Unforgettable experience.
The meal was delicious and service really amazing. One of the host explained each meal and it’s ingredients.
Google maps location is a bit inaccurate, so better to call the host. Or you can just use the first turn from the two that google suggests and then look for the sign, it’s right near the rise field.
We went here with our driver/guide after spending the morning in Polonnaruwa - really delicious Sri Lankan food and great setting in the country. It is a family run business and they were lovely. It is good to be able to support local Sri Lankan people! Definitely recommend stopping by!

Our driver Raja took us to this local restaurant for lunch. Hard to find, off the road, looking out over rice fields. But what a delicious food!!! They prepared at least 13 dishes and presented it with the original produce in front of the bowl. You can see exactly what you are eating. Plates with lotus leaves, happy friendly people, great food, topped off with traditional desert curd with honey. Find it!!!
Amazing local restaurant with a lovely view over the fields. You could take as much as you wanted and everything was so fresh. The owners are the sweetest. Highly recommend if you want to taste real local food.
