Stayed at the Sapphire Resort located North of San Pedro Town. On the resort grounds is The Gem. Don’t be fooled by lack of ambiance. We enjoyed a fantastic piece of fresh fish with a cilantro sauce that was delicious. My wife is not a fish person and loved it!! Included were rice and steamed veggies. Good veggies are not easy to find here on the Caye, but these were fresh and steamed to perfection. The rice was cooked perfect and was flavorful. We also shared a Gem Salad. Again the veggies used were fresh and flavorful. The coconut ginger dressing was subtle but had good flavor. For desert, we had a chocolate cake that was more like a pie. Very good and not too sweet and overly chocolatey like some chocolate deserts can be. At least for me. Our server Evan then brought us a sample of the soon to be served Oreo cheesecake. We will be ordering this at breakfast! If you are out towards the north end of the Caye, give The Gem a try.

I don't leave reviews very often, but the food here was so unexpectedly delicious that I wanted to share! This is a part of but not affiliated with the Sapphire beach resort. The Gem restaurant is right next to the reception office. It's small, clean and unassuming, and honestly lacking a little ambiance. But if you want exceptional food, this is the place! I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it had I star reviews, I didn't believe it! We got the special, which was fresh caught red snapper with cilantro and onion sauce. It was amazing! It came with fresh grilled veggies and vegetable rice. I am never very impressed with rice, but this rice was delicious. We also got the gem salad with fresh ginger dressing, and it was very fresh and flavorful. Lastly, we tried the chocolate cake, which was actually a chocolate cheesecake, maybe we didn't understand or hear correctly. It did not disappoint once we realized it was a cheesecake. It was so creamy and chocolaty we devoured it! They even brought us a little sample of an oreo cheesecake that just came out of the oven, but it was too hot to cut a slice. It was so good we are going back later to get some. This place doesn't look like much, but the food is so well done its definitely worth a visit, and we have very high standards for flavor, so it takes a lot to impress us!

Excellent pasta and chicken dish, drinks, and fisherman's fish dish. Friendly, professional, and great vibe. Bravo in Huntsville, AL, should take notes. Highly recommend!
