I last ate at this place a little over 20 years ago. The restaurant has been there for decades. The fact that it's still there should tell you something. We decided to stop by since we were in the area. I do remember them providing GREAT customer service back then. We received the same GREAT service this time. We ordered the fajita enchiladas and fajitas for one. The food and service were great. We'll be visiting more often.

Mexican Tacos
This is a great place to take friends and family for authentic Mexican food. They have an excellent variety of meal choices and the service is A++++!
Highly recommend this family owned and run business!
Update:
Wife and I went for a bite and shared a Beer-Rita.
It's really good too... we love Mexican Cervezas, so this a good choice. Been seeing it on the menu for years. Do yourselves a favor a don't wait as long as we did. Ok?
Update: February 10, 2024
They have revamped the lighting, the ceilings and repainted... it looks and smells great!!!
They food was awesome as always, as were the drinks...

It’s ok, service was good but if you’re looking to have good food go to Lupe Tortilla. The price was about the same but the quality of food sucks. The waitress couldn’t even tell me about what sauce of the enchiladas, which I was concerned about because I have allergies. It wasn’t horrible but the quality of food did not match the bill.

I've lived in and out of the area my whole life. I returned to Houston and have visited El Charro every chance I had. Every item is always hot and fresh. Great queso and salsa. Good margaritas. Cozy atmosphere. The staff is polite and accomodating. No other tex-mex restaurant compares, in my eyes, for the area..!

I ordered beef fajita nachos online ($14). Went and got my food to find I literally had 6 chips in my order. Went back to the restaurant and told them. The waiter then said " oh our online ordering service is messed up, that's only a half order". I said so yall charge $2 per chip? I then showed him nowhere on the website for the store do they offer a half order and would like my money back as no did was ever touched. He says he has to call the manager to see if they can do a refund and eventuality did give my money back. This was the first and last time I'll order from here. The food may be good but I'll never know. I will say the fact they know there is a problem (according to the waiter) and still charged me for a full order is pretty unprofessional in my opinion. This may scolding why they don't have cars outside their restaurant.

We tried this place for dinner while in town visiting family. The service was wonderful. They have the basic Tex-Mex food and some very original dishes. I ordered the burrito which is covered with gravy and tasted fantastic. The Margaritas are delicious and well made, we cannot wait to return. The restaurant was clean as were the restrooms. We were greeted as soon as we entered and seated right away. Our server helped us find exactly what we wanted to order.
The lady clearly doesn’t care for working there. She acts like you are putting her out if she has to go ask about the menu that she knew nothing about. They charge me a extra 3 dollars for a substitute meat without telling me in my chimichanga and then sprinkle the tiniest amount in it. I pretty much got a bean burrito with little to no meat. I probably would’ve gotten more meat in a single taco.

1st timer here. Prices are too high for the quality of food. I never say this but it's mediocre/sub-par. Arandas next door would have been better.
They are stretching the meats and it's embarrassingly obvious.
Cheese enchiladas are flat, needs more filling. The main parillada entree, the $22.50 one has grocery store sausage and disappointingly burnt beef cut into thin strips.
"Guacamole salad" that's guac, right?
No it's onions, cilantro tomato, jalapenos
sttttretched with one avocado. $10.95
I wanted one of these "classic" TexMex places close to home. We will not return.
Thank you for the excellent service.

Good food service was spot on too. Mexican food my son and I eat often, out of the 5 places we frequent EL Charro cost Me the most.
Fajitas for 1
Tacos al Carbon.
A small queso.
2 teas. @70$ with tipping the waiter, and the chip/drink hotshot guy.
This place is had been here for quite a long time I do believe.
So tenure, food quality, 5star.
No sourcream / cheese for my fajitas, @70$ to eat 3star.
