This would have to be the best place I have had coffee in NZ. Don't get me wrong, there is great coffee in NZ. However, Ebb cafe is that next level. The coffee is rich and chocolatey, with a hint of bitterness that delicately offsets the richness. Staff are friendly and happy. The food is great and freshly made. I had a bacon butty (pide bread with bacon and egg) soft moshy roll , flavoursome bacon, and a runny fried egg. This is a beautifully designed cafe, however the experience with the food really dulled it for us. This place is definitely at the higher end of what is reasonable to expect to pay for food. We ordered an iced coffee (okay), iced chocolate (mediocre) followed by our food. The bacon butty at 20 dollars is extortionate, nonetheless was good. For my Turkish eggs, I only got one small slice of bread halved into two, which for me wasn’t enough for the meal. The flavour was good but lack of bread meant I was mopping up with a fork. Delicious breaky from this place. Got 1 swedish meatball dish ($26), and one classic big breakfast ($26). Both were yum as. Nice little spot for coffee, tea, and breakfast for us. They also do lunch but we didn’t try that. Food fresh and delicious. As was the kokako coffee and tea. Staff was awesome- friendly, attentive, and fun. Not much to see outside of windows. Large indoor/outdoor seating. Next door to hotel. Ebb cafe is a truly wonderful yet unconventional cafe. It tries to differentiate itself from other cafes by providing a menu with dishes consisting of a taste pallet that is truly out of the ordinary. It experiments with a variety of ingredients and combinations that sure will pull you out of your comfort zone. This cafe is a treat for the all the foodies who love to experiment and try something different while catering to everyone at the same time by providing dishes we all know and love. We came in on the 1st of January 2024 for some breakfast and the two guys were crazy busy running the shop with all the people stumbling in. And even with being under the pump they were both awesome and smiling. We decided to get some coffee and a cheese scone for takeaway instead and we didn’t mind waiting just a little for it so they could catch up and it was bloody worth it cause the coffees were awesome and the scone and almond croissant were damn delicious. Divine coffee, beautiful delicious food from chef Alison, great service and smiling barista. What a stunning place this is as an addition to our happening Hospo scene. Absolutely must for anyone coming to stunner dunner. Hands down, this is one of our favourite go to place when we are seeking top notch coffee and scrumptious delicacies. We had a hot chocolate and a latte with absolutely divine tasting Persian cake with scents of rose. The broccoli falafel were to die for. Beautiful texture, perfect flavours and silken smooth hummus. My absolute favourite cafe and hotel when in Dunedin. It is beyond top notch, both the hotel and cafe. I commend all the staff on always being helpful, friendly, and professional, even when having to navigate ungrateful customers, as in the complaints of no cash. There’s bigger problems in the world to focus your energy on. Just simply enjoy the space, the high quality food, the table service. ….And chill out. Make it your happy place.
