Great family restaurant on the beach! For families with children, the Dunes is a must in Cape Town/Hout Bay. Located right on the beach, you can enjoy delicious, unfussy food in a relaxed atmosphere. Great for relaxing while the kids let off steam in the large playground. And the sunsets 🌅 here are awesome! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Best view restaurant in Hout Bay. It has three different seating areas: kids play area (tables area in sand), terrace and porch (best view but you have to take stairs). It is the only restaurant in that strip, so definitely reserve if you can (12 hours in advance is all they allow), but they usually have space for walk-ins. The wind can pick up but they do have covers in the terrace area to help. Very kid friendly restaurant. We were quite happy with both the quality and portions of the food. The service was also quick and friendly. It isn’t a fancy restaurant, but just a chilled “diner” type beach restaurant. It's busy today (summer and holiday season) and though it took a while to get a table, the food came out pretty quickly. Drinks took a while but the staff was attentive - Edo and Tash took care of us. Ribs were nicely cooked, off the bone. Sushi rice could be less compact but overall tasty. Garlic prawns starter was delicious and the Fish and Chips were finished! There are ample umbrellas that the staff will adjust based on whether you want shade/sun. All in, a great experience and I feel the quality of the food has improved from when we were last here in 2022. Bravo! Been to this place about three times. The venue location is beautiful as someone who has sat both at the top and the bottom of the restaurant. With it's location and view, and being the only restaurant on the strip by the beach it can get pretty packed. I feel this impacts the service as the waitors and waitresses always have their hands full but still make an attempt to be as friendly as possible. If you want a good table or quiet corner I suggest you reserve. It is also quite a kid friendly restaurant so lots of noise downstairs with a jungle gym and a designated child minder in the play area. There is also a specific section in the ladies bathroom for changing nappies. The restaurant is surrounded by sand so it does get a bit sticky and sandy. Due to the lag in service some parts of the restaurant can look unkempt but in general the place is not too bad. Their vegan options are minimal, slightly better as a vegetarian. Their focaccia like pizza base was very delicious , I ordered the Mediterranean pizza without the cheese and it was still scrumptious. Their vegetarian sushi was also not too bad. My sister ordered the calamari both times she visited with me and the second time was reported to be delicious with the first time being dry. Drinks a bit on the pricey side. Don't bother going anywhere else! This is the place for excellent coffee and great views. Reserve a table for breakfast to avoid disappointment. They are popular, vibes but not loud and at the same time, the tranquility provides soul enriching revitalization! Beautiful sunset, Mountain View’s with a nice low tide to allow for a good beach walk. The prawn curry had a good level of heat. The service was quick and friendly. Great place on the beach, prices are not bad, would be great to see a greater selection of beer at better prices. The service was great and although Dunes does not have a dedicated wheelchair loo it is possible to use the available facilities with with a bit of planning and help from the staff. I did phone to find out if the venue was wheelchair accessible and unfortunately whoever answered the phone did not sound too keen for my business, I guess that means the tourists are back in Cape Town? The food was good and well priced however my steak was overcooked and not well seasoned also not the best cut, might be better to stick to the seafood options here.
