This alley is very important for its history.
It’s the alley where were established the first pubs in Keelung, dating to the Vietnam War.
When the US military participated in the Vietnam War the city became a central location where the soldiers could rest and take a break. Many American soldiers arrived at Keelung Port and helped establish new developments such as bars, consignments stores and jeans streets. After the war, the soldiers left, the hustle and bustle of the port gradually declined as the Japanese and Korean sailors, as well as the bar ladies began to leave. In its heyday, Yangpai Bar owned 18 bars including Columbus Bar, an old fashioned bar established in 1979. The last remaining American army bar, Lucky Star, was considered a hidden attraction in downtown Keelung eventually closed its doors in 2015. The alley is now an abandoned area, where the excitement is replaced with silence.
