It's okay to have off days, but this location seems to have more off days than on days.... that or we just have very bad luck with showing up on an off day. Online order placed over an hour before promised time (we requested a 6pm pick up), arrived 15 minutes after promised time hoping that we could simply get our food and go. No such luck. Food wasn't ready.... like at all. So another 15 minutes while the food was made and then were told the Tacos (that days special at $5 a piece) would be a minute longer. I'll spare you the drama laden story.... 45 minutes later the tacos were produced.....thats almost a FULL HOUR after the promised time. When we spoke to the front saying the other food was getting cold and should we just leave and feed our family and just get refunded the price of the tacos we were treated like WE were being unreasonable. I don't know if it was just an employee or management as we didn't ask, we were handed our food no apology other than "sorry for the wait" and sent home. The food was tasty, at very least the order was correct (this time) and the family was full...... but seriously the communication and solution finding/problem solving skills here are really bad. There are now options in Santa Clara for food and I think places that treat their patrons with such little consideration will become a dying breed. I'm certainly not interested in continuing to spend my hard earned money where waiting until 7:19 for a meal that was promised at 6pm is somehow my fault and I'm unreasonable for wanting a solution while my food was getting cold. I used to think this location was better than the others in the area, I don’t think that’s the case anymore. It used to be they just didn’t give you very much meat but now you get less of everything. I got the smallest piece of lime ever, at this point why even bother having them. Workers are more worried about quickly slopping your food together than listening to what you want. I’m unfortunately never going back to this location hopefully. I swear they hate me when I show up. Maybe I’m a horrible customer. Their portion size is SUPER SMALL. There is a worker that was promoted from cashier to the line and their customer service instantly drops when they see me. In addition to our normal meal, I ordered a vegetarian 2 taco. NOTHING WAS IN THE 2 TORTILLAS and they put rice and beans on the side. AND I WAS CHARGED $10. So I paid $10 for 2 small tortillas and a small scoop of beans and rice. If I paid for that a la cart it would’ve been $4 or something. Their customer service isn’t just bad when it’s super busy. There were zero people in line last time and they still give super tiny portions and horrible service. I’m now going to drive another mile to go to a different location. The staff is so friendly it feels like family. We always feel welcome at the Sandy location in quarry bend. The food portions were generous, and the taste of our salads was excellent! For my wife and I it would be unthinkable to go anywhere else when we think of dining out. For the volume and quality of an entree here, the price is hard to beat. Cafe Rio is a reliable staple for fast casual Mexican food. Across all locations their product is consistent. Good variety of meats and sauces to choose from, and always willing to customize your order on request. Top tips: The tres leches cake is decadent and delicious - one of the best options available for purchase at a fast Mexican restaurant. Worth the $5, but you may also have a survey offer on your receipt that can earn you a free one on your next visit. Also be sure to leverage their app for a decent rewards program. This is probably the worst Cafe Rio I've been to. Over the past year, the quality of the food seems to have steeply declined. Seems like the salads are the worst part a piece of lettuce (the thick white bases). I'd say half the time the staff is okay, and the other half they seem pissed to be at work and to be serving food. Just bad vibes, sub-par food for old Cafe Rio standards, and prices keep increasing. Costa Vida is the better option, which I never thought I'd say. Is clean though, so I'll give them that. This store is felty and dirty. Be aware, it's possible you're going to get food poison in this store. The portion size of the beef tacos is like 1 oz and 1/2. And how I know this because I'm a chef. I ordered a children's quesadilla, im pregnant and my stomach is super nausiated and i was hoping it would sit well, the cheese wasn't melted I asked them if they could put ir through again to melt the cheese. She proceeded to use the tongs to give it to my bare hands and burn me. No apology, nothing. I only grabbed it from her because I assumed they wouldn't hand burning hot metal to a customer. Three fingers on my right hand are now burnt.Super disappointed and on top of that the cheese wasn't even melted. I'm pretty angry honestly. Do employees here not care about customer safety?
