I really enjoyed the fish burger from here. Fun toppings and full of flavor! Also got the banana and pineapple ring when I wanted to treat myself for completing a 2 hour walk. Excellent fish and chips. My first time at CJs. Wasn’t let down. Service was super friendly, great family run business, everyone seemed happy. They were really busy but it was fast. Fresh fish and really good batter and a generous portion - fish prices are less than town too. The photo is 2x gurnard with half a scoop of chips. They even have a screen with order numbers you can see if you wait in your car. Really impressed! Will Definitely return 😊 Thanks - I’ve just read it’s new owners. Tried these fish and chips - chips were ok but hot dog and fish were both quite greasy. Photo shows 1 scoop given, bit on the smaller side. Found the service to be a bit abrupt, not so friendly. Prices a bit higher as well. Plus was quoted 10 mins for collection, waited 25 before receiving food. Wouldn’t repeat in a hurry. Having lived in Atawhai the majority of my life I've seen this place change ownership a few times but I can honestly say Atawhai Takeaways is the best fish and chips I've ever had!! It is consistently satisfying. Great size portions, plenty of options to choose from and always perfectly cooked. By far the best Kumara chips I've had in my life!! *** Updated review*** We went back to CJ'S and the quality was so much better. In fact my friend joining us for dinner thought that they were the best fish and chips she had had. Crisp chips, lovely fish and well battered onion rings. Great stuff! September Unfortunately the last couple of orders have been really bad. Dark brown chips and onion rings. This time the onion rings were missing batter. Fish size was tiny as were chips. The quality has dropped dramatically, I hope they improve otherwise we will have to go elsewhere

On Saturday the 2 young guys made the best piece of fish I have had in a long time. Both the fish and chips cooked to perfection I'm glad the new owner has given them the reins because these 2 are onto it .. Thank you Food: 4 Service: 4

Really good fish, firm and very tasty. Probably one of the best I tasted. Kids live the chips and mini hotdogs. Easy to order and friendly staff. Will definitely come again. Highly recommended. Meal type Dinner
