Everything on the menu states there is a Gluten free option, when asking at the till we were told there was nothing Gluten free. If this restaurant was in the UK it would be under investigation by Trading Standards for false advertising. Of course we didn't eat here as one of us is coeliac, but having seen the poor reviews once we were back at our hotel room it looks like it was a blessing in disguise.

I’m really surprised to see so many negative reviews here. I met some fellow tourists from Germany earlier in the day on a tour, and they had eaten here the night before and liked it,
The service was great. Flexible when our party went from 5 to 4, and very helpful explaining things to the folks who were not native English speakers.
I had the Seafood Workshop and really enjoyed it. The accompanying potato fritters were yummy, and while the steamed veggies were a bit bland, there was enough sauce from the seafood dish to pep them up a bit. My companions had the rump steak and the seafood soup; and were very pleased with their dishes.
The one criticism I’d have is that it took a surprisingly long time for the food to arrive. Have to guess that the kitchen was backed up, but the table service was prompt and friendly.
Limited vegetarian options, and I don’t think there was anything for vegans. But if you have a group of omnivores or even pescatarians, I’d unreservedly recommend this place.

Before we go to Armadillos, we checked the Google Reviews (2.7) but we really thing “ we need to see, so the Food Menu is pretty nice” the venue is in front of the lake, why not try it.
We feel so sorry for the chef, because his food is incredible and very tasty. We loved it,
But unfortunately the FOH doesn’t know how to provide a good service.
They lose us in a simple detail, but It showed to much how bad its.
We ordered 1 Rump Steak, 1 Chicken Bacon Pasta and 1 Weges Potatos fried, as I already said, food was amazing. My girlfriend just went to the FOH staff and asked if we could have a 2 shares plates.
So the idea was we can have a lit bit of the food and the one of the staff said: “ I will see what I can do for you”, few minutes later, another staff arrived with 2 desserts plates. My Girlfriend gently just asked if we could have a bigger plates and the answer was so funny: “ you are 2 ppl with already 3 plates on the table, is it not enough?”
Seriously, FOH are terrible, that’s probably affecting the reviews on the Google.
Chef, Ill would love to give the 5 stars, but unfortunately I cannot do it and I don’t recommend people going to there.
Wish I had read the reviews before I attempted to dine here. Ordered and paid for lunch at around 1.30 on a Sunday. One hour later we were still waiting. Upon checking how much longer we were told we hadn’t waited THAT long and maybe another 10 or 15 minutes. Don’t bother unless you want to spend your previous time in Te Anau waiting for your meal.

Took a few mates in to grab a meal from there a while ago, got rudely spoken to by the staff whilst waiting at the bar. In the end we didn't order anything after being told a 45min wait for food and went and got a feed up the road which was ready by the time we walked there( other customersdid the same). It's not the same like it used to be. Go to the club, the Ranch or the Radcliff instead anyday.

A terrible experience honestly. The meal was ok. The steak was cooked as requested but was warm. The vegetables were over cooked and had no taste. Although the restaurant wasn't busy the service was terrible. We felt like we were a problem for them. We weren't asked for drinks at anytime. We sat waiting for our dessert order to be taken and although on a number of occasions catching the eye of the waitress she never come over.
After travelling 8.5hrs to one of NZ most beautiful tourist attractions we expected something a lot better.
Very poor.

Food was meh… but service was beyond terrible. Sat without water or drinks for 20 minutes while staff were laughing and chatting amongst themselves - lots of wandering around empty handed. Gave up and ordered at the bar. Disappointing

Chicken and bacon stack is half a chicken breast flattened out and a piece of bacon. Overcooked and dry, no seasoning and the mashed potatoes were cold and dry. Terrible food

VERY disappointed, not against eating in Pubs but when I go to a restaurant, that’s where I want to eat.Went up to the counter and the lady asked us to sit in the adjoining pub as she was the only FOH,wasn’t happy (as didn’t feel like pub environment) but as she was alone,we said ok.Then hubby went to place our order,he wanted the Ribs..... was told ‘no meat ‘?? as meat hadn’t arrived,so scrapped it and left... Honestly, people go to Armadillo’s for ribs!! 😡😡
Had a lovely time at Armadillos while staying briefly in Te Anau. We went for dinner on both Saturday and Sunday - the food was great for a great price and the staff were very friendly. Food came out promptly. Environment was also cosy and just what you want a local pub/tavern to feel like.
