Nestled in Bhaktapur, Ama ko Bara Pasal stands out as a celebrated bara shop, drawing attention from local and international food bloggers alike. My repeated visits—this being the 3rd or 4th—have only reinforced the notion that consistency is the key to its culinary success. What sets this place apart is the presence of "ama," the lone chef, who tirelessly prepares each order, ensuring that the taste remains unwaveringly delightful over the years. The ambiance is a lively spectacle, with the small space bustling with activity. There's a certain charm in the compact setting that adds to the overall experience. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, the welcoming atmosphere and the aroma of Newari delicacies make it a must-visit spot for anyone with an appreciation for authentic and flavorful local cuisine. Ama ko Bara Pasal truly encapsulates the essence of Newari food in every bite, making it a gem in the heart of Bhaktapur. A small hole in the wall type setting, serving only bara a newari dish. It is a lentil dosa topped with egg or egg and buff. Very delicious and filling. This shop is run by a mother daughter duo, Aunty who cooks is very humble and loving . We told her that we saw her video on YouTube and came to her place to eat, she was very thankful for the support and recognition she was getting from the visitors. If you are in bhaktpur make sure you visit her and enjoy the food she serves. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person Rs 1–500 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
A small place where Aama cooks Bara and other food items are also available. If you are lucky you'll find a place to sit, otherwise you'll have to stand and eat. We tried Chicken Egg Bara and it was delicious. Aloo was okayish. The price was a bit high though. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person Rs 1–500 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
This is a must-stop for me when visiting Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and the bustling scene at this place adds to its charm. The mixed bara with jhol is my go-to, and despite the wait of 10-15 minutes during busy days, this is worth trying. Aama preparing the newari delicacy keeps the place lively. Pro tip: Hang out by the main door to avoid being overlooked. The hot plate of bara not only entices but also satisfies, making it a delightful experience. This small place definitely is viral for a reason 😁 Be sure to carry cash, they don't have phone or card pay option. I paid Rs 125 for the mix bara with jhol. Food is so great but the service is very, very poor. There is not even enough space to site. We have to wait ni line at the road. But must is a must try. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Here the Bara is really tasteful. However they charged the foreigners much higher than the local. The local paid 100, I paid 150. Another Italian girl in the same hostel said that she was asked to pay 250!
The famous bara shop in Bhaktapur truly lived up to its reputation. The place is small, and seating is available in the alley, which adds to the local charm.I tried the keema egg bara instead of the regular egg bara, and I must say it was pretty good. The flavors were delightful, and the combination of keema and egg worked well together. However, I wish they had asked before adding the jhol (gravy) to the bara. Personally, I believe without the jhol, the bara would have been even more enjoyable. Seeing the aama cook the bara added a touch of authenticity. If you're looking for a genuine bara experience in Bhaktapur, this shop is worth a visit. Just be sure to specify your preferences regarding the jhol to ensure the best possible experience. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
This is the best bara shop at bhaktapur Nyatapol. You can get varieties of bara. The food which is available there is Newari bara (Newari cuisine), basically it is made of black gram flour. According to varietis and taste egg, buff mince are added.
What a wonderful and authentic Newari food available here. BARA is so good here and also tried aloo, achar which was also delicious. No parking space infront. You have to park other place and go there by walking. If you are at Bhaktapur Durbar Square and you miss trying this food then it's like you will miss something. Make your visit memorial with good food and memories. It's small space but well utilized space.
