I'll start with a little story that directly relates to the Ukiyo service. I had read a story about Ukiyo in the newspaper and looked up the restaurant for an upcoming trip to Middelburg. Great reviews, good location so ready to reserve a table for four people. I searched for the restaurant name in Google and, without double checking, made a reservation via Google Reserve.
When we arrived at Ukiyo our reservation was nowhere to be found, although I could even show the reservation confirmation in my email. After a couple of minutes the owner figured out what happened and this was definitely on me. I made a reservation for a Belgian restaurant with exactly the same name. So enter the service element of this story. Even without a reservation and with a packed restaurant the owner was able to find us a table. Woohoo!
The food was really good and a big step up from the run-of-the-mill sushi restaurants. Ingredients are super fresh and the presentation is very attractive. The concept is about sharing, so you can just order some dishes and then go for another round. There are enough options if you're not into sushi, with fish, meat and vegetarian options.
Make sure to try some of their (non-alcoholic only) drinks as well. Refreshing taste and served in true cocktail fashion.
Finally, don't be like me, and book your reservation with Ukiyo in Middelburg :-)

We have been to many sushi restaurants and this is definitely one of the best. Amazing fish and meat quality. Creative combinations that taste amazing. Friendly and competent staff. Strong recommendation!

One of the best Japanese restaurant i have ever been.
Didn’t expect to find such a quality restaurant in the area around Middelburg.
The menu has plenty of choices and i have tried some of them during my two visits in a week.
Quality of the food was perfect,everything fresh , and well served.
I recommend the Wagyu A5 steak ,the price is low and the quality top. Just try it!!
Tuna toro…omg was delicious in combination with the fresh and chopped wasabi!!!!
Crispy Ebi , the calamari, and the sushi were delicious.
Staff and especially the owner are great and they know what hospitality means.
Definitely i will be back when i go the area again.
Even the restaurant itself is a nice place ,relaxing with nice vibes!!!

Sushi Fans kommen hier voll auf ihre Kosten. Frische hervorragende Qualität der Speisen, alles kreativ angerichtet. Es gibt keine alkoholischen Getränke, dafür eine feine Auswahl an z.B. Sencha Tee. Karte auf Englisch wäre hilfreich gewesen.

Tolles Restaurant mit sehr leckerem Sushi. Die Atmosphäre dort hat uns sehr gut gefallen, da es sehr ruhig und entspannend war. Die Bedienung war sehr aufmerksam, höflich und strahlte eine unglaubliche Ruhe aus.
Das Sushi- sehr liebevoll hergerichtet und wirklich sehr lecker. Das Getränk- mit Rosenblüten...
Der Besitzer hat uns gute Tipps bei der Bestellung gegeben, war sehr freundlich und hat sich mehrmals informiert, ob alles bei uns in Ordnung sei.

One of the best sushi we have ever had (or maybe even the best). Everything was so fresh and well served. The atmosphere is very chill. They have nice selections of teas. Our waiter seemed very acknowledged with the menu and dishes - he kindly explained what we had on our plates and gave some instructions. I forgot to ask about the name of this delicious pepper which was served with one of our dish, maybe if someone reads this can let me know? :)
It is worth every cent and we will be back definitely!
