Have been here before and really enjoyed ourselves but yesterday was there with my family including my two young kids. I was told they didn’t like the look of my diaper bag and was told to put it in my car. I thought this was a kid friendly place but now I’m not so sure. Really left a bad experience.

Not kid friendly….Families are NOT welcome. We went on a Sunday afternoon (1pm) after our kids soccer match at the field they share a fence with. The place was DEAD, literally only soccer families were supporting The Local that early afternoon. They were stressed about some event later and were clearly annoyed just by our presence (our kids were all sitting down watching the soccer matches being played down below). The staff were all incredibly rude as well so we left to go to the dog park side which is clearly more kid friendly. Later, we get an email from the soccer facility saying that The Local is not kid friendly and that families are not welcome. If you have kids, don’t bother supporting this business as they have made it very clearly that they don’t want you there. ** It is clear from other recent reviews that The Local desires to be a bar at all times of the day and does not want or need to be family friendly. There are so many other great options at The Shacks with better food to support! Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Great concept and could be a cool place to eat after playing kids soccer games. With that said ….. this place does everything possible to deter you from bringing your kids. They will not allow you to enter with any kind of water bottle that a kid may be carrying after a soccer game, no back backs, questions larger mom bags and for the topper ……… kids are expected to remain by your table at all times as they do not find it appropriate for the kids to roam and play in the large turf area that includes corn hole and bocce ball. Go figure. Apparently these “new” rules have been implemented after the turf soccer fields opened up that they share a fence with. Price per person $30–50 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
We found ourselves at the Local often on the weekends due to location and other activities. They have cornhole, large jenga and a lot of space. Our kids were always supervised and mindful of others, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. We received an email this weekend regarding the presence of families at the Local saying "we specifically request that you refrain from doing so [hanging out] at The Local. They are strictly a bar and not family-friendly, and have expressed a preference not to accommodate our families with children." I have been to plenty of outdoor spaces like the Truck Yard, Katy Trail Ice House and the Hub and all are great options for people with families. For a business (in the suburbs, talking about Sunday afternoons - not Uptown or a place crawling with young adults), I found this to be ridiculous. I understand not wanting families at a bar on Friday/Saturday nights, but to be openly hostile to families on a Sunday afternoon is absurd. We spent $100s there as a group. The other restaurants at the Shacks have come out and said all are welcome and we will not be spending another dollar at this place. They have shut off a huge market and I hope people can find alternatives to spend their money.

We were coming here and hanging out having drinks every week while watching our kids play below on the City Futsal fields. Spent hundreds of dollars and met some great bartenders who were super friendly to us. Afterwards, our kids would come up and meet us for lunch, and we'd spend more money. However last night, we received word that The Local has made it clear that us soccer parents and kids are not wanted in their establishment. So we will not be coming back and spending our money here, even though in every instance, our kids were well behaved, cleaned up after themselves and didn't bother anyone. The place was dead empty of adults anyway because it doesn't seem to fill up until later in the day. So not only will we avoid spending money there during soccer games, we certainly won't come back w/o our kids, either. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
