The food was absolutely phenomenal, cooked and served by the owner himself. This particular 4-course meal included a bottle of wine and a spiced banana fritter dessert with cayenne chocolate ganache that I will forever be craving more of! My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and it was just so special. We cannot wait to go back and next time we hope to catch the live music!

I really don't like when I can't give outstanding reviews for restaurants I want desperately to love. Unfortunately, I was disappointed for a number of reasons. First, only one of the three appetizers and only three of the main dishes were available. I wish that when I called to make a reservation there had been noticed given that it would be a limited menu.
Then, I never actually saw the bill and so I'm not really quite sure how I was charged. Some of that's on me but I felt bad to see the total and then to demand to understand how it was itemized.
Next, we were freezing. And finally, it wasn't all that clean.
All that said, what we ate tasted good. I don't think that for what was offered on the menu, it was worth $40. And I know that probably sounds cheap, but I think that's largely due to the choices we had on the menu. We weren't able to order what we were really looking forward to eating.
I really liked the owner/operator. He was very sweet and, as I understand, he is a one-man show. I think that having somebody help him could probably help with some of the issues with bathroom and kitchen cleanliness.

This was an amazing dinner. My wife and I will certainly return. The red snapper, Salas, appetizers, tapioca, cocktails and wine were all superb. The restaurant itself was cozy and welcoming, and Jordan was a most gracious host. If you're in the area, don't miss this rare dining experience.

At the suggestion of my friend, we decided to try Me Lon Togo out since we both had never had African cuisine. I am so glad she suggested it! The food had such unique and delicious flavors. The night we went was not crowded (even though the food should certainly warrant it). I know I will be back with others. The chef was very nice and friendly. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

Dined at Me Lon Togo two days ago—not for the first time, the food is so great I keep going back—but this experience was even better because for the first time, I managed to be there when the live music was happening. Owner, chef and waiter, Jordan Benissan, is also a drummer who teaches African drumming at Colby College. It's worth going there just to hear him, but if you like to try new things with deep, unique, and spicy flavor combinations, you're bound to enjoy Me Lon Togo just for the food. Apparently the TV show, Chronicle, agrees, since a crew from Boston showed up that same night to record Jordan's story. Jordan was joined that night by talented guitarist and singer, Jim Gibson. Some of the traditional Togo dishes are vegetarian, a boon for me, not having to make a special request. I don't think there's another restaurant in the state offering a menu based on the cuisine of Togo, and the $40 prix fixe menu with choices for appetizers and entrees, is a bargain.

Chef Jordan is a one man show, sharing approachable delicious food from West Africa. You can enjoy a 4 course meal for $40 each plus adult beverages.
We shared the appetizers- mine was sweet potatoes and plantains cooked creamy and sweet with a hint of spice at the end. His was local grits with shrimp, chicken and fried egg with warm spices.
The salad of peas, garbanzos, red onions, romaine and hard boiled egg was so good! A simple cider vinegar dressing made this a delicious plate.
For entrees we both got a dessi- a stew served on rice. Mine was tender chicken in a sauce of ground peanuts, ginger and other spices. His was more like a gumbo- beef, chicken, smoked salmon and veggies. Both were yummy and satisfying with just a bit of heat.
One dessert option and it sounded odd- tapioca pudding with ice cream on top. The pudding was warm, so they were melty, creamy delicious desserts.
The restaurant is an old home, so there are little rooms with mismatched furniture. It reminds me of my great aunts home in Biddeford- but nothing ever came out of that kitchen anything like Chef Jordan’s.
One note- this is slow played food- Chef truly is a one man show. So take your time, sip a lovely cocktail and enjoy this delicious food.

A lovely meal in an out of the way place tucked just to the east of downtown proper. Flavors were wonderful. A surprisingly diverse menu for a one-man operation.
