You can order nicely cooked lobster rolls, clam chowder and beet salads. Cooks at this bar do their best to provide guests with tasty Brezeln, crème brûlée and brioche toasts. The wine list is extensive, it can satisfy the needs of all visitors. A lot of visitors order good americano, ice tea or cappuccino. The staff is cheerful that's what makes Green Dragon Tavern & Museum so good. Terrific service is something that people note in their reviews. Adequate prices are to be expected at this place. You will definitely appreciate the cool atmosphere and nice fireplace. Google users who visited this spot state that the most suitable mark is 4.4.
High ceilings in this historic building, I was a bit cold. We ordered mixed seafood grill for lunch which was excellent!
We also visited briefly the museum until our food was served. I recommend spending some time looking at the historic documents and stories.
Love the Museum. The Tavern and Restaurant are amazing. Had a Wit and Wisdom cocktail. (Sailor Jerry rum based) very very good. The pretzel bites were the perfect combination of crispy and chewy with an amazing Raspberry Mustard and beer cheese for dipping. Main course I had the Shepherds Pie. I was one of the best I have had. The PORTION was huge! I brought home half!!!
We will go again if we are ever back in Oceanside.
We’re planning on bringing a group of 60 people in here. We were trying to get a hold of event coordinator Sarah for weeks. We kept emailing her and calling her and she never returned our calls or emails and it would take her days to respond after she did. We took our event somewhere else. This place definitely needs better management and event coordinator to get things, right.
What a loss for them, great location, and great event venue if they had a better event coordinator and management
Great Northeast Coast atmosphere, very nice little American History Museum 2. And consistently good food. The Thanksgiving Buffet has become a tradition for us and is amazing. We've always had great service at the green dragon 2. It's a unique and fun place to take guests from out of town, very unexpected for Southern California.
A true hidden gem. Delicious food and drinks and a unique museum with tons of items pertaining to the American Revolutionary period. Atmosphere is laid back and chill. Great for dates and kids. Highly recommend the clam chowder, salmon and steak frites menu items. We are locals who can’t wait to come back!
I've heard about the Green Dragon Tavern, from Google Maps posts, & driven by it many times, while going back & forth, on the I-5. Today, my wife & I were in the area, & decided to stop in. This is modeled after the original Green Dragon Tavern, in Boston, where Paul Revere rode out from, to warn the Colonial militia, the British were coming.
Happy Hour pricing for drinks, begins at 3pm. My wife & I got here shortly after this. When we arrived, there were only 4 guests inside the restaurant/tavern part, of this extremely large building, however part of it, is dedicated to the museum.
The main tavern hall, where we were seated, is a 2 story-tall large rectangular space, with seating along the periphery up above, perhaps for private parties, or when this place is really full. You'll notice a separate dining room, off to your right, as you make your way past the foyer. Revolutionary War Flags & artwork decorate the walls inside.
The manager greeted us cheerily, & escorted us to our table. In a short while, our server arrived to the table, to take drink orders. We went ahead & ordered food then, as well.
I asked for a 16oz. Societe Pupil IPA, $6 Happy Hour Price, with my wife ordering water. My beer was a light, smooth-drinking IPA, just right- not overly hoppy.
We each picked something from the menu, with my wife ordering a bowl of their clam chowder. We agreed to share the chowder, as well as my pick, Braised Short Rib, the beef dish timed to come out, after we'd finished the soup.
Their New-England-Style Clam Chowder was amazing, with ample tasty whole clams, bacon, nice-sized potato chunks, all swimming in a thick, creamy & flavorful base. It came out hot, & we loved it!
We had to wait a bit, after our empty chowder bowl was taken away, for the Braised Short Rib dish to appear, which arrived with an extra plate.
Initially, the plate appearance looked good, with a huge slab of short rib, bathed in a shiny brown gravy, resting on a bed of mashed potatoes. The beef was supposed to be braised in red wine, & along with the mashed potatoes, broccolini & mini carrots were listed, on the menu for this.
There were many disappointments re: this dish, but the 2 largest, being this meal came out lukewarm, at best, both the meat & mashed potatoes. Considering we waited a while to get it, that's just not good. While attempting to portion the beef up, my wife had trouble cutting through it, & it even took effort forking it apart. Beef Short Rib cooked right, should be nearly fall-apart tender. I tasted no red wine nuances in the beef, which according to the menu, it was braised in. The 2 mini carrots, sliced in halves on the plate, were blanched, & hard to cut through, plus unseasoned. Broccolini, was absent from the plate entirely.
The mashed potatoes were serviceable, albeit far from hot, however there weren't close to enough potatoes, to compliment the beef, bite for bite.
Because our $27.95 Braised Short Rib dish fell so far short of our expectations, in so many ways, I've given Green Dragon 3 ⭐. When it got busier, they only had 2 people working, with one solely bartending. When a group of twelve arrived, both the server & manager concentrated on getting their drinks out, & we were left to watch this, as we waited 10 minutes, for our carrot cake dessert to be delivered to our table, after we had already paid the bill.
Don't count on fast service here, if it gets busy. Also, I'd skip ordering the Braised Short Rib Entree here.
Another wonderful evening and dinner spent with my family here. Five different items ordered and everyone was perfect! Of course, we have to start every dinner with their clam chowder and an order of bread. My daughter and I I love browsing in the museum while we are waiting for our dinner and also after dinner while everybody else is chatting, she and I are down there, enjoying the rich historical artifacts. We love to top our dinner by taking a stroll in downtown Carlsbad, and enjoying the ocean breeze. This is a special treat because we live in the remote mountains of San Diego.

Had the Maine Lobster Roll and Hubs had the Crusted Cod w/ garlic mash potato and asparagus. WOW! So delicious! Took the photo after we started eating so did not catch how much food there was. Yummy!
You wouldn't guess it's a restaurant from driving by. Very interesting little museum with a charming restaurant. The service was fantastic and our waiter was very friendly and attentive!
Had the chowder fries and a lobster roll. The chowder fries were delicious and filling enough to be a meal by themselves. The fries were crunchy and there's a lot of flavor. I loved the chunks of bacon, carrots, and potatoes. I wish I got a bowl of clam chowder as well. The lobster roll was a little underwhelming. It's mostly bread but the bread is good. It was kinda dry as well and we expected more from a $30 sandwich. Our waiter recommended a blood orange IPA that was fantastic. Great staff and presentation for the food. Would definitely come for chowder/chowder fries again.
