My wife (and newborn son, strangely enough) are seafood specialists and crab connoisseurs, so when she declares the clam chowder here the best she's ever had, I am inclined to agree with her! Additionally, the cheesy crab bread had her eyes rolling back in ecstasy (it was a hit with the little guy as well!), and I have nothing but fantastic things to say about the halibut fish and chips, so overall, other than a slightly aloof and meandering server, our first meal at Castaway's was about as close to perfect as you can get! We'll definitely be back! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Clam Chowder Bowl of Soup
We have been waiting for castaways to reopen for years. Their clam chowder was one of our favorites. Upon reopening it has the same vibe. The clam chowder was good. Slightly different than I remember. The halibut po boy was dry, cold and lacked flavor. Staff were very kind and offered to provide another dish. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Seafood lasagna! Let me repeat….SEAFOOD LASAGNA!!! Oh. Emm. Gee! You’ll die blissfully and go to heaven. It’s loaded with so much delicious crab!! The crab cakes are amazing too! I love the sweet potato puree they had on my plate. If only they gave a bigger portion than a dollop. We ate at the bar. Bartender was friendly and service was great. They gave superb recommendations. I wish I lived closer so I could enjoy this place more often. Came down from Washington to get an attitude from the long blonde waitress/bartender who dresses like she's 20 but looks 60 in the Castaway Seafood Grille bar. We walked in not knowing our environment and we immediately directed to the bar. My husband stepped in towards the bar and your unwelcoming staff states " excuse me" super loud and with so much entitlement. It came off very rude and was out of line. Customers should always come first in a well run business. Later I heard the girl talking about moving to Alaska. Sounds entitled, bitter from recent breakup and unprofessional. Your restaurant could do better. She is pushing the return business away. Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
My husband and I decided to take a drive and ended up at this place. We saw it was a wait and thought it was a good sign. It was not. Wished we would have kept going to any where else but here. The host was a young chick who was so clueless and rude. That should have been our sign to dip. But we waited the 30 plus mins to be seated. Our waitress was nice. We ordered drinks, appetizer and food. The best thing I ordered was the Key lime pie martini. We ordered the crab spinach dip. It was more like soup! It was cold and the cheese on top wasn’t even melted. My husband ordered the fish and chips. He said they were OK and I ordered the crab cakes and they were cold in the center. I sent them back and only asked for them to be warm up, which they gave me three new crab cakes and those were cold in the center as well. I wouldn’t dare send them back a second time, so I just dealt with it. Will not be returning. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $100+ Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

Long Beach was a stopping point on our Pacific Coast Highway road trip and we wanted to experience some local food joints. We found this place and google and opted to try it. Let's start by saying the service was exceptional from the host/hostess station to the servers. I had high expectations for the atmosphere but it was so busy, it was noisy and was just more packed bar feel. The food was both great and disappointing. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer which was great. I got the ahi tuna tacos and my husband got the crab cakes. Crab cakes = so great; perfect crisp, flavorful, and overall great. The ahi tuna tacos were so disappointing. There was an overflow of garnish and the tuna was almost cooked all the way through - so much so, two days later I went back to the menu to see if I ordered albacore tuna tacos and didn't read it right -- I didn't....Alas, it is what it is. If I were given an option to go the restaurant again! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

I sit at the bar wherever I go to a restaurant. The reason is that if it's not a special day, I only order drinks and simple snacks, so I want to take a good seat and give way to those who need it, and because I always go to new places, enjoy talking with kind and kind-hearted bartenders, and it's fun to distinguish between alcohol and non-drinks while looking at the many whiskey bottles in front of my eyes. This is the restaurant with the most restaurant-like interior in Long Beach, but in fact, if look inside, the lay out in the bar is strangely made, so if you close the door, it's narrow for people to go around the corner. Maybe that's why they left the door open, and when I was about to move the seat next to her, she was upset because she didn't want a corner seat to be empty, so she told us in a nervous tone to sit at the table over there, which offended our group. I took the drink I ordered at once and moved to another place with a ridiculous tip. She may not be the owner of the place, but I feel sorry that he hired a person of that kind of person. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is good, so recommend to visit at least one time but don’t sit at the bar at corner !!! Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4
Dinner for two on a Saturday, only waited 10 min or so at 6p for a table so pretty good there. We shared a hearty clam chowder which was fantastic! My wife had a ahi salad which also was tasty with nice portions except for the skimpy lettuce bed. I had a cod sandwich and fries which was pretty great for the price and cooked well. My wife did find a produce sticker in her salad which should never happen. Our server apologized but didn’t seem surprised. The place was busy and had tons of staff running around, except for our server.. didn’t see her much. After dropping the check she actually never made another appearance. 20 min later a manager came and checked us out. Decent food, bad server.
From the other reviews on Google, I will say this place is slightly over hyped. The food was very boring. The fried oysters were great. 4 other menu items that were ordered from my table were very bland. Where the food lacks, they make up in service. My party was seated in the bar area, It was extremely busy and the bartender was by herself. She not only kept up with the bar but, was providing great customer service as a waitress for the bar area. The service sets this restaurant apart, makes up for the food Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Fried Oysters
