I used to really enjoy dining here but it’s been gradually going downhill each time. Last night I went in for dinner with a girlfriend around 6:30 and it was very clear the waitress just wanted to get home. She barely checked in, and rushed around us spraying windex on the tables. My chicken was very pink, so I was waiting for her to come over since she kept looking at us and it wasn’t very busy to ask if it might be able to be cooked a little more. My friend wanted some bread to go with her mussels, but after 20 minutes she only came over to clear our plates. At that point she asked me if I wanted to take the chicken home since she clearly had seen I didn’t eat it. I told her I didn’t believe it was cooked. She showed it to another manager/waitress, said nothing, and went to get the check but I asked her to bring a dessert menu. I would have ordered something else to eat because I was still hungry, but again, it was very clear she wanted us out of there. I understand if she cannot take an expensive meal I didn’t eat off of the menu because the cook didn’t cook it long enough, but there was no apology or offer to get me anything else, I had to ask for a dessert menu because at that point I wasn’t going to wait for another dinner. Additionally, it was only around 7:30/7:45 at this point and we felt like they just wanted us to leave so they could get home. I unfortunately won’t be back. Service and atmosphere were great. The food wasn’t as good as we were expecting. We ordered oysters which had lots of shells in them so they weren’t shucked very well. We then ordered the steak tartare which had good flavor although there were some chewy pieces and the bread was hard as a rock. We got the lamb lollipop appetizer which was nice and cooked well. I got the duck which was cooked nicely but the cherry sauce was a little too sweet. My husband had the ribeye which was delicious. We finished with the bread pudding and that was good. Overall a good experience and would try again but a little disappointed with the quality of the appetizers. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I'm embarrassed to say it's been 10+ years as a kittery resident and I haven't been here before last night. Immediately upon walking in we could tell the staff were some of the best around. They were so friendly and so attentive. We sat at the bar and the bartender Tascha was amazing! My husband and I split a decent amount of items and all of it was way more than we had expected. The steak was cooked to perfection and we were shocked at the size. The prices are exceptionally reasonable for the quality and quantity. Definitely our new go to in town. Don't pass up the espresso martini Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We had a lovely meal here for my husband's birthday. The service, the food, and the decor was really impressive. It's elegant and upscale without feeling pretentious or stuffy. Try not to sit right in the front window at night, though, because it's really annoying to be blinded by headlights coming down the street every few minutes. Fantastic location, excellent service. The fried olives - to die for! The chef’s take on a PB & J was creative and absolutely delicious. The mussels were phenomenal, my girlfriend isn’t a seafood person, but inexplicably couldn’t stop stealing them from my plate. On to the main courses, the ribeye was done to a perfect medium rare and coupled with the mashed potatoes was a complete melt-in-your-mouth experience. The duck entree was tender, juicy, and flavorful - chef’s kiss! Bread pudding for dessert really ended the meal with an exclamation point. Top to bottom a truly wonderful dining experience. Friendly staff, 2nd to none food and a bubbly atmosphere. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

There were a few hiccoughs, 1 bad oyster, they replaced, and my entree came out as an appetizer portion, which is a different dish, they brought me another appetizer portion done the correct way. Still recommend. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $30–50 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

A local restaurant with wonderful food and drinks. Four of us each had something different, and everything was spectacular. Tables are a little crowded together, so it can be loud. Anneke Jans is a wonderfully warm and inviting venue in downtown Kittery. Our reservation was honored at 6:30 on a Wednesday and we were shown to a half-walled section that had 3 tables, making the moment intimate. Ella, our server was gracious and relaxed, never a hint of turning the table. My companion and I shared an Arugula salad, so good w pine nuts and a light vinaigrette. The raw oysters were plated properly and were rich and briny, a bit small but enjoyed. As in Paris, Steak Frites are a must. The meat was perfectly cooked, the matchstick frites were over salted though. The Scottish Salmon was a very generous portion w a nicely crusted skin, resting on a moist bed of shiitake and quinoa, all great flavors that worked together. We lingered 1-1/2 hours and it was very special. There is great value here. With a Tanqueray G & T and 4 glasses of red and white, $155 excluding tip. Will def. return. Thanks. Overall an excellent experience. the mussels are a must-have as well as the pomme frites. oysters were excellent with a very nice cucumber mignonette. My wife had the salmon which was excellent. i had the chicken francese which was very tender but sort of tasteless and way too many potatoes. My wife had cosmos and i had vespers which were great. really a 4.75 review, but i am pretty picky. the host and waitstaff were excellent, as always. bottom line, we would go again at any time!
