Great neighborhood watering hole with generous portions, a large variety of dishes, a friendly and down-to-earth vibe and great service. Fun to eat at the bar or outside. Highly recommended.

I always had good take-out here until this. When I ordered meatloaf, I expected slices of meatloaf. The picture shows what I got. The overall review is two stars because the service is very good and, until this time, so was the food.

My husband and I took a day trip to Pittsburgh and happened to stop at Sunny Jim's for dinner. It's so happened that we hadn't eaten much that day and were really hungry. I picked Sonny Jim's based on reviews and the name lol. My husband had a Russian Reuben and I had pulled pork and pierogies. Both dinners were delicious. We got a good size portion for our money and the service was attentive. My one complaint is that there wasn't a side salad or coleslaw to go with the dinner. That would have been nice, but we didn't finish our food so it's a moot point.

Highly recommend the pulled pork sliders, creamy coleslaw and homemade chips! We ordered takeout for 15 people for an event and it was ready, well packed and made the set up easy. Everyone at the event asked where we got the great food. I recommend Sunny Jim’s place something on the container with their name/address that we could show guests.

We went there to eat while we waited for our dog at the pet emergency. We had ordered and had our drinks when we got a call that nobody wants. The wait staff was unbelievably kind, and told us just to go.
Great atmosphere. On our way in we asked a couple people what was good, they said everything with emphasis on the fish sandwich. We both had ordered it, and hopefully next time we'll get to eat it.
Kindness like that in times of peoples needs means everything. Big thanks to the employees.

Great food any time of day. Pierogies... excellent! Zucchini fries were best I've had. We also had Thai chili wings that were sweet heat. Unique. They smoke the wings out back, and the smoky undertones make every sauce or dry run better. Sunny Jim's never disappoints.

Ginger Habanero and Thai Chili Boneless Wings
We had the four piece Fried Chicken which was pretty good and juicy not cooked the second time like a lot of other places do and leaves dry. The mashed potatoes were good but would have been better if they were homemade fresh not out of a box LOL. The fried wings hot wings were pretty good and I told him not to overcook them and they didn't they were nice and juicy and not dry like most places. The Bloody Mary was pretty good as well. My wife somehow asked the server if the were fresh or boxed mashed potatoes, and I interrupted her saying, " ...you are kidding you not know the difference...". I told her that tase in the background gives away they are not home made. Server laughed and said we used to make but now use boxed from pandemic. I am a private chef and caterer and trust me, you need to get with the staff as you are out of the loop. Again, I will be back to try other items as others were good. FYI, sauce/gravy for potatoes was not home made either but not bad

The smoked wings are fantastic! Great happy hour prices! Clean, and casual atmosphere with lots of tables and a large open dining room with 2 bars and a patio. Very impressed with this place and it’s history!

Wing Night
Decent food at okay prices. This place is extremely popular in the area, and I can understand why, but the food isn't really something worth writing home about. I ordered online on Uber Eats and got to try the cheesesteak/hoagie and a side of coleslaw.
You get to order one of many sides for free along with your order of an entree or a sandwich. A few of the potential side options include soup (for an up charge), cottage cheese, apple sauce, fries, chips, baked potatoes, vegetables, salad, and so on. I thought the coleslaw was quite good. Creamy, vibrant, and just overall very satisfying. Getting it as a free side was nice. It was very creamy but a bit sweet as well (also some carrots).
The steak hoagie was pretty substandard. It did not contain much cheese, and the little bit of cheese it did have was not very flavorful. They also did not have mushrooms. The bread was thick and not that toasty. The steak was chewy and relatively flavorless. Price was okay for the portion.
All in all, the food wasn't that great, but it wasn't bad either. I thought they made a great coleslaw and the portion was fantastic for that slaw! Definitely recommend that. But, the hoagie itself wasn't that flavorful.

The ambiance is great they have a great happy hour. Have a wonderful outdoor patio. Two bars. Hannah's the best bartender. The nachos are killer especially if you have pork. The open meatloaf sandwich is off the chain. Fried cheese is the bomb. Prices are reasonable. Everything's is clean. It's a must-try spot
