This place doesn't look as inviting on the outside, but inside is impeccably clean and very german looking. I absolutely love the food, and the service is also traditionally trained. Unfortunately, I gave up drinking, but they have great choices for German beers and fare. Will definitely make this another destination again soon. Absolutely fantastic German food and even some real German beers on tap. Everything was perfect, from the cooking to the presentation to the service. This place has definitely earned its reputation. Enjoyed a NYE meal with friends. Haven’t been in years but the I remember the food so much better. Ordered the “Madagascar” filet was very good and cooked to my liking however the amount of peppercorns used to season the meat was atrocious EVERY bite you tasted pepper. The dinner rolls were hard as bricks and the potato snow used to be white not yellow and tasted so much fluffier years ago…overall an enjoyable meal but in this economy the value just wasn’t their for the price paid. Schmankerl Stube in Hagerstown. Really good German (Bavarian) restaurant. We got the Combo Platter for Two but started with Breaded & Fried Tomatoes (red, not green) and creamy potato soup. The combo platter had pepper steak medallions, pork schnitzel, Nürnberger bratwurst, spätzel, potato salad, red cabbage, and beans wrapped in bacon. They have a full bar, and their Glühwein with a shot of Frangelico was very good. Everything was very good. Service was great. Definitely recommend a reservation, it stayed good and busy. This place was a blast. The food was amazung but the standout is the asthetics. The restraunt definitely has that European feel and with the uniforms the staff wears it is trully an immersive dining experience. The wursts and other menu offerings are great and the desert was perfect. Would reccomend but it can be a bit pricy. Everything about this restaurant was 5 stars! The service was great, quick, knowledgeable and always with a smile. When ordering your food, you have to be okay with tons of sauce and food touching each other. Everything is delicious and I cannot get enough. The platters are big so each can easily feed 2 people. I wish I can tell you what we had, but the names were a struggle to say much less trying to remember them. I loved that we were served bread first, warm and with unique butter, not your the average kind. One thing to really get that you can go without is their sauerkraut! It is absolutely delicious!!
