When I lived in Topeka for 27 years, I was a regular patron at Paisano’s and I loved it. The last time I was here was about two years ago. They have updated the furniture and the booths are smaller, but they did not update the paint and the wallpaper which really needed it. But I digress. What was really bad about tonight was the service. The lady didn’t even give us plates for our breadsticks and what should’ve taken five minutes to get Alfredo. Dipping sauce took 20 minutes. And she didn’t have that many tables because it wasn’t that crowded and there were other servers. She just was a bad apple. The food was pretty good , but not famous like it used to be. My ex-husband got a dish that was too spicy for him and that hardly ever happens. I got the turf and surf pasta and the meat was pounded flat. And there may have been three shrimp in it it was OK but nothing like what I remembered. The atmosphere wasn’t great because everybody was sitting in one big room. It used to be that they kind of had it partitioned off and they had carpeting to muffle the sound. We placed a catering order from Paisano's for a holiday party at our home and everything was delicious! The ordering process was easy, our order was ready on time, everything was exactly as we ordered it, and the food was perfect! Many of our guests told us they loved the food. This was the first time that we have been here, we have been to the Lawrence Paisano's up until it was demolished a couple years ago. My son and I were in Topeka for something else and we decided to go. The salad, breadsticks and the service was out of this world. We did the 2 for $30 and it was a great deal. The toasted ravioli as an appitizer was great, I ordered the Penne Abruzzi and my son orded the Lasagna and it was out of this world. The Andy's mints at the end is a plus also. Our group was a party of 7. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer, both were delicious. Most of the teenagers ordered the Napoleon style Pizza while the rest of us ordered pasta. I ordered the Chicken Paisano's, five stars. We were celebrating a birthday and indulged in desserts and we were even given a slice of cheesecake on the house for the birthday girl (me). The creme brulee and chocolate cake were great, the cheesecake did not stand out in flavor. Our service was excellent. The food was excellent. The atmosphere is ok, table space is tight, conversations can be overheard between tables and it's difficult to navigate. The interior, booth seats, and bathroom could use updating. We ate at Paisano's last night to celebrate my sister and brother-in-law's 10th wedding anniversary because that's where we had dinner after their wedding 10 years ago. It's nice to have a place in Topeka that isn't too loud with TVs cluttering the peace. We were able to talk and enjoy our evening. Our salad, appetizers, and entrees were all wonderful. Everyone was happy with their meal and we all had plenty to take home for lunch. Nicole, our server, was great and took care of all our needs. She was friendly and welcoming to our party of nine. We really enjoyed her jovial but professional attitude and I will ask for her as our server next time we are there. The entire experience has me considering Paisano's for our future special occasions or just an everyday dining out. Thanks for making our night very enjoyable and special.
