One word to sum it up REGRET Regret coming here and spending my money. First ordered a Paloma cocktail...no FLAVOR whatsoever, tasted like Water down Squirt with little to no Tequila. Asked for a frozen Strawberry margarita instead, gave me on the rocks. The flautas my friend ordered where soggy, looked like canned beans. I ordered the "large burrito" mmm nothing large about it very much a regular burrito. The meat was the same color as my sour cream. Meat was lacking color and flavor. My husband ordered a torta of breaded beef, u tasted only breading. Highly disappointed!! It’s 2 stars because my wife like her enchiladas. I order a combo of steak and shrimp, also a trio fajitas. Both plates tasted horrible, the steak was fatty and had a bad after taste, the shrimp tasted like bleach and was over cooked. It was definitely not fresh. I tried adding some lemon and salt and I wasn’t able to eat it. I left almost half the plate. Took the fajitas home, the next day I open the container and it smell like rotten food. This place is unique!!! It is a traditional Mexican restaurant. When I say restaurant, I do not mean fast food, Mexican. I mean good, large portioned, delicious, homelike food served here. We have been coming since it opened and since they had another Las Palmas in Evanston since the 80s and this place still provides grade A food and service. We ordered the Carne Asada platter. No restaurant that I have been to in Chicago nor surrounding suburbs have served such a thick and juice Carne Asada. Our agua de horchata was served in a margarita glass which feels nice. Our server Juanita Is super helpful, attentive, and nice! The tortillas here are made fresh in-house. We also ordered a guacamole and queso fundido, which I cannot find anywhere else here. The guacamole was very delicious with a lot of flavor. We also ordered flan, fried plantains with sour cream, and mango cheesecake. All desserts were delicious. If you have never had the plantains with sour cream, the sour cream has sugar and cinnamon in it. The flan was perfect, not too dry not too gelatinous. The cheesecake was a nice slice. You can taste the food is very fresh here in comparison to other Mexican restaurants I have been to this is by far my favorite and will continue to always be my favorite until someone can do something better than this restaurant.
