This place was great and a good price for the area. I got the fried shrimp platter and my wife got the gumbo. I thought the shrimp was great. The fries left a bit to the imagination but the shrimp were great. My wife said the gumbo was really good. I give the gumbo diner a must stop if you are on the Galveston seawall. Definitely try the grits!!! Food: We went back to this spot several times during our visit for some authentic local cuisine. The food was tasty and served up hot and quick! Service: We had several waitresses that were quite nice, attentive, personable, and added to the enjoyment of the meal. If they were our only experience, we'd give them a 5. The one male waiter didn't really listen when we were ordering. He was distracted and when we asked for things again, he seemed dismissive and argumentative. If he had been our first server, we may not have returned. Luckily, our first several experiences were great! Atmosphere: Retro diner decor and small dining area. The service is quick though and we rarely had to wait for a seat or for food. Parking was limited to either paid street parking or free lot behind a hotel that was under renovations.
