I may give this place a try on another night, but we will have to see. I called them Friday to see if they did karaoke. I was told that karaoke happened around 7pm on Saturday.
8pm Saturday I walk into this fairly small dive, it’s somewhat busy, there are 3 bartenders, a few people playing video poker and half filled seats at the bar. I notice there’s a stage but no karaoke occurring. I sit at the end of the bar furthest from the door. I sit there with a $20 in my hand just waiting to be acknowledged. 6 or 7 minutes later I hear, “Will be right with you ma’am,” from the male bartender (other bartenders are female). There seems to be a whole lot of confusion behind the bar and cards and bills are just piling up by the register. A good 3 minutes later I order a vodka and soda. He makes my drink, takes my $20 and says he’s going to have to hold it because there’s a jam up at the register. I ask him about karaoke and he tells me that karaoke only occurs on Thursday nights. I’m pretty annoyed at this point. But I sit and drink my drink. I spend quite a bit of time wondering why drinks are served in styrofoam cups. Since there’s obviously no dishes to wash, why are these three bartenders so frazzled and jammed up…then I notice, the male bartender takes a shot with a patron at the end of the bar (I still haven’t received my change and am wondering if I ever will at this point), he then proceeds to the register, picks up a beer and drinks most of it down then attempts to straighten out the register. What? Lol! This is why everyone is demanding to pay out, they are afraid the bartenders are going to be too wasted to handle the money. Both female bartenders eventually ask me if I’ve been helped and I tell them that I am just waiting for change. I tell them that I have the male bartender a $20 and only had the one drink. He gets really frustrated at the register so I tell the one girl to just give me back my $20 and I will just give her a $10. She does so and then tells me that she is supposed to be off already but that the other two bartenders came in late so they’re trying to get all that sorted so she can leave. She was friendly and all telling me I should come back and do trivia or karaoke on Thursdays. I probably won’t.
It’s been a while since I lived in Louisiana, but, I don’t think it’s very responsible to allow bartenders to get sloshed while working. I’ve worked in a number of bars in different states and I’ve never had a boss (or state ABC) allow that type of behavior. I have had a boss that believes in hair of the dog as an incentive to get his employees to show up after a night of drinking, and it was based on the individual circumstances, but he never allowed us to get so intoxicated that we couldn’t function.
Drinks are a bit expensive and shots are watered down, wonderful atmosphere would be a great place if beer wasn’t doubled the price of normal pool halls. Got a shot of whiskey the color of tequila. Could literally taste the water. Seems like the owners cheap, great location wonderful people just wish they wouldn’t screw everyone over on the $$$$
