The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It is quite popular so make a reservation if you want a later dinner.
The food and drinks were excellent.
We would go there again if we were staying longer.
El Plaza was a cute place and a recommendation from many people around the island. Perhaps we ordered the wrong thing that night, but my husband and I wanted to try the grouper. The restaurant inside is a cool space; however we were seated outside. Normally, we prefer to eat outside as many other eateries have fans. However, there were no fans, and we were left to eat our entire dinner with a swarm of huge flies around us. We were seated quite quickly and the food came out quickly as well. When the grouper came out, I was surprised it was even a half pound, when it was marked one pound. There was barely any meat on it. I think a chicken wing has more meat on it, and for $35 each. If we had more time, I’d consider going back and ordering something else, but I don’t understand how in good faith such a fish could be served?!

I ordered the burger. When it came out, it covered half of the bun and was burnt on one side and underdone on the other. When I asked to return, the staff basically said that because the owner/chef said that I bit into the burger -- he couldn't re-serve it so he'd charge me 50%. I've been to a lot of places and worked in restaurants-- nobody does this. They remake the burger or let you get something else.
Apparently the owner is known for doing things like this around the island.
UPDATE: And then things got crazy. The owner, a guy named Carlos approached me aggressively in a bar next door about this review.
Doubling down on this behavior and approaching a tourist in person, and invading their space is just bonkers.

Fried Cauliflower Bites
El Plaza is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Vieques for many reasons- the renovated historic building is cool, everyone working has a good vibe, and the food is 💯They have multiple vegetarian and vegan options- all are flavorful and delicious. Pictured is the breadfruit soup, tropical mule and Impossible Chickn entree. Not pictured: the frosted vegan coconut cake, because we inhaled it as soon as it hit the table 😅😋

We were thrilled with the creative vegan versions of traditional Puerto Rican plates. We had the breadfruit soup, heart of palm ceviche, mofongo - all vegan! Great atmosphere and excellent cocktails. Incredible staff and service.

Hearts of Palm Ceviche
We enjoyed our meal, the space, and service. We ordered the special ribeye, perfectly grilled and seasoned , and risotto- also perfectly cooked. We had cocktails, and a fried cheesecake dessert- inventive and enjoyable. The space makes good use of the original building and ambiance, the people working there made us feel welcome. Would definitely return.
