The food was delicious. The drinks were fantastic. The service, phenomenal. Martin was the best. Outstanding service with enjoyable conversation and atmosphere. Our last evening at the Fairmont was spent closing down the bar and Martin definitely made our night! Would 10/10 recommend.

The Banyan tree is over 300 years old! It’s worth a visit to just see this majestic beauty. It is located at the Banyan Tree Grill in the beautiful Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, an institution and landmark in San Juan. This restaurant is for casual dining.
The banyan, also spelled "banian" is a ficus that develops accessory trunks from adventitious prop roots, allowing the tree to spread outwards indefinitely. This distinguishes banyans from other plants with a strangler habit that begin life as an epiphyte, which is a plant that grows on the surface of another plant and gets its moisture and nutrients from the air and water. Noteworthy, the Banyan tree is India's national tree, Ficus bengalensis.
Due to Covid staffing and supply issues they’ve been running a smaller menu, but the options you’d expect are there. The food is overpriced ($17 for a side of fries, y’all) but that’s to be expected poolside at a nice resort. The service was prompt and food came out quick. We had burgers and they were good, better than I was expecting in fact. On another day we had the turkey club and hummus. Both were ok.
